Milton Development

We want to thank Colin Best, Regional Councillor for Ward 1, for providing us with an update about Milton medium and high-density development this month.  There’s NOBODY more generous with their time and expertise than Colin.

So here we go… as of January 7th, 2020, here’s what we have in the works.  There are at least three other projects that we’re AWARE of, but this is the list according to the Development Application Map on the Town website.

Under construction:

  1. Bucci Homes – 405-475 Ontario Street South – 151 stacked townhouses
  2. First Line Developments – 80 Bronte Street South – 116 units, 4 floor rental apartments
  3. Mattamy – S/E corner Louis St. Laurent & Leger Way – 251 units, 6 floor condo apartments and condo townhouses
  4. Sutherland – 610 Farmstead Drive – 170 units, 6 floor condo apartments
  5. Fernbrook – 1050 Main Street East – 233 units, 12 floor condo apartments
  6. Victoria Park – 154 Bronte Street South – 24 units, 5 floor rental apartments
  7. Catherton – 70 Ontario Street North – 138 units, 4 floor rental apartments
  8. Valeri Homes – Costigan & Miller – 105 units, 8 floor condo apartments
  9. Howland Green – 710 Bronte Street South – 710 Bronte Street South – 132 units, 6 floor condo apartments

Total units under construction = 1,320 units in nine locations

Approved applications:

  1. First Line – 100 Bronte Street South – 40 units, 3 floor rental apartments
  2. Fieldgate – 7480 Derry Road – 191 units, 6 floor condo apartments
  3. Jacal Holdings – 130 Thompson Road South – 802 units, 31, 29, 27 floor condo apartments
  4. Briarwood – S/E corner of Derry & Ontario – 643 units, 25, 20, 16 floor condo apartments
  5. Manaman – 1050-1090 Bronte Street South – 375 units, 3-6 floor condo apartments and townhouses

Total units currently approved = 2,051 units in five locations

Initial and filed applications

  1. Valour – 248-250 Martin Street – 19 units, 3 floor rental apartments
  2. Main Sail – N/E corner of Bronte/Britannia – 272 units, 4-6 floor condo apartments
  3. Vue – 26-60 Bronte Street North – 435 units, 19-21 floor condo apartments
  4. Fernbrook – 101 Nipissing Road – 677 units, 19, 17, 15 floor condo apartments

Total units under consideration by town = 1,403 units in four locations

With an average of 2.4 people per unit, these 4,774 units will allow for 11,457 new residents depending on occupancy.

Plus, the Derry Green Business Park will be bringing more jobs to the community as it begins later this year.  The goal is to have 50% of the people who live in Milton retain jobs within the community.  This will (hopefully) lead to a better quality of life, and less congestion on the roads.
